Les Bêtes Curieuses: Vineyards
As explained in my introduction the focus of this project are the cru communal wines, and the two Jérémies have vines in five crus communaux. The Gorges cuvée comes from 40-year old vines tended by Damien Rineau, while all the others are vines tended by the two Jérémies. These include 2 hectares of 50-year old vines on granite in Château-Thébaud, originally from the Chauvinière domaine, 1.7 hectares of 40-year old vines on schist in Goulaine and a small parcel of 50-year old vines on the granite of Clisson. In addition, they also have 1.7 hectares of vines in Monnières-Saint-Fiacre, a gneiss terroir, on a north-facing slope. These are all planted to Melon de Bourgogne of course, but the two Jérémies also have a parcel of Folle Blanche committed to the project.
The parcels are all discrete, and in most cases the vines are pruned and trained in a gobelet fashion. They work the vineyards in a sustainable manner, working the soil and avoiding chemical treatments. Some parcels are certified fully organic, while others are in the process of conversion.
