Domaine de Beauséjour: Vineyards

Domaine de Beauséjour is situated on the right bank of the Vienne, not far from the village of Panzoult. It sits sandwiched between Domaine Grosbois, barely a minute’s walk upstream, and Domaine de Pallus, a few more minutes walk in a downstream direction. This places Domaine de Beauséjour right in the boundary line between the communes of Panzoult and Cravant-les-Coteaux, both of which have long been eligible for the Chinon appellation. Indeed, it is possible to stand in the courtyard of the old farm with one foot in each commune.

The farm buildings at the heart of the domaine are of considerable age, several centuries at least, reflecting the ancient origins (more ancient than is realised, perhaps?) of this estate. Today they serve as storage for winemaking equipment and vehicles, a place to meet and perhaps to taste. All the real work takes place in the more modern cellars built by Gérard Chauveau during the 1970s, and which have already been extended by Ivan Massonnat; these are located right at the top of the vineyard, nestled in at the edge of the woods.
