Château Larose Perganson: Vineyards
The vineyards of Château Larose Perganson are for the most part located close to those of Château Larose-Trintaudon, the two properties in the same ownership of course. This places them close to the D206 running southwest out of Pauillac towards Saint-Laurent-Médoc, west of the Pauillac and St Julien appellations. Its nearest neighbours of note are, of course, the Haut-Médoc classed growths of Château Belgrave, Château de Camensac and Château La Tour Carnet also nearby, to the south. Although having said that it is not a long walk to the likes of Château Batailley and Château Haut-Batailley in Pauillac and Château Lagrange in St Julien.
The vineyard was created by cleaving off a section of the Château Larose-Trintaudon estate, and today it has 26 hectares of vines. Of these, 16 hectares are situated in the shadow of Château Larose-Trintaudon, while a further 10 hectares are situated at Arcins, where there are also vines dedicated to Château Larose-Trintaudon. The soils match those of its near neighbour, being dominated by a silty-gravelly character. The vines are 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot, planted at a density of at least 6,600 vines per hectare in the first instance, although this figure has climbed in recent years and it is currently closer to 10,000 vines per hectare. There are plans to add a greater diversity of varieties to the vineyard in future years, including Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. These are already planted and will be included in the blend when the vines reach an acceptable maturity.
