Château La Gaffelière: Tasting & Drinking
The style of wine made at Château La Gaffelière, if we are to simplify what St Emilion gives us into traditional and modern, have long been in the former category. While wines made in the modern style, which includes the domaine’s neighbour Château Canon-la-Gaffelière, impress with dark colours, slick fruit, rich tannins and not unusually rather high alcohol levels, the more traditional wines are more reserved, more genteel, sometimes with a firmer, more sinewy style. They focus more on structure than flesh, sometimes to a degree that the bones are visible.
