Château de Fonbel: Tasting & Drinking

While this estate is at the opposite end of the spectrum to Château Ausone, an entry-point to the portfolio, it does have two significant features in its favour. The first, as I have already declared in my introduction, is the identity of the proprietor; both vineyards are run by Alain and Pauline Vauthier, and the two wines are made by the same team. The second is the price; in a time when the prices of the majority of Bordeaux’s most interesting wines seem to be disappearing towards the stratosphere, Château de Fonbel remains eminently affordable.
