Jean-Marc Biet: Tasting & Drinking

It is too easy to overlook domaines that do not benefit from a famous appellation such as Chinon or Vouvray. In recent years I have made efforts to explore what we might call ‘secondary’ appellations, such as Quincy or Reuilly, the Fiefs-Vendéens or Haut-Poitou, as well as the broad ‘regional’ appellations such as Anjou or Touraine. On reflection, these tasting explorations have really been worthwhile, as I have discovered numerous interesting domaines, of all shapes and sizes, all bound together by one common feature, the production of interesting wines, of sometimes surprising quality, and almost always surprisingly good value.
