Gadais Père et Fils: Vineyards
As I have already indicated in my introduction to this profile, the Gadais family’s cellars are located in St-Fiacre-sur-Maine which, despite my initial words, could be regarded as the heart of the Muscadet Sèvre et Maine region. The cellars are positioned by the main road running down the thin isthmus of land that is situated between the Sèvre and the Maine as they approach one another. At the tip of this isthmus is Château du Coing de Saint-Fiacre, just to the west of the cellars, while Domaine du Grand Mouton, the domaine that will always be associated with the name of Louis Métaireau, is another near neighbour, on the other side of the village.
Today the Gadais family have gathered around them 47 hectares, scattered across more than 120 plots principally in St-Fiacre-sur-Maine, but also in La Haye-Fouassière and Vertou. I explore the specific parcels and their associated terroirs in more detail below, where I describe the various cuvées.
