Domaine de Bellevue: Vineyards
Today Jérôme Bretaudeau has approximately 15 hectares of vines to his name, scattered across four communes. First, he has some in Gétigné, essentially a suburb of Clisson on the right bank of the Sèvre Nantaise, where he is the only registered vigneron. This is perhaps not surprising when you take in his surroundings, as he is encircled by industrial and residential buildings; it is not just Château Haut-Brion that must bravely resist the suburban creep, it seems. Other parcels are in Cugand, which is on the opposite bank of the river, on the narrowing finger of land between the Sèvre and the Maine, in the commune of Clisson, which straddles both banks, and finally in Vallet, which is to the north on the way towards Ancenis.
As well as working with Alain Gaubert, along the way Jérôme Bretaudeau has also been influenced by the work of Jo Landron and then Guy Bossard, and so it should perhaps come as no surprise that his methods in the vineyard moved towards organics, and then biodynamics. A noted in my introduction to this domaine it has been certified organic by Ecocert in 2012. Subsequent conversion to biodynamic viticulture, and certification by Biodyvin, came in 2020.
