Alexandre Giquel: Vineyards

Alexandre Giquel has barely a couple of hectares of vines, with which he fashions a very select range of cuvées. Perhaps the most significant of these is a tiny parcel of Chenin Blanc close to the première côte in Vouvray. Here Alexandre has managed to get his hands on 0.25 hectares (or 25 ares if you prefer) of vines, a few rows located in a parcel situated close behind Château Moncontour. The vines have been tended using organic methods for at least ten years, the conversion having been made long before Alexandre came onto the scene, with the fruit destined for its own cuvée.

In addition Alexandre also has a slightly larger parcel of Gamay, this one just 0.35 hectares (35 ares), and again the fruit from this parcel of vines is channelled into a dedicated cuvée. Presumably, in view of his story, Alexandre also has some Côt planted close at hand, although I haven’t tasted Alexandre’s efforts in this arena.
