Bordeaux 2010 Primeurs: Value for Money
Increasingly vital in any Bordeaux vintage review, with prices ever-rising, is some indication of which wines offer good value. The truth is there are many great wines, and whether they provide value for money is a personal value judgement. Nevertheless these wines struck me as providing good value; the first half-dozen include wines which, although perhaps rather pricy, still offer a lot for your money. It all depends on your perception of value I suppose. And on the release prices, of course.
Good wine at a fair price….
- La Dame de Montrose: lovely accessible fruit and great structure here. I really enjoyed all the wines at Montrose this year.
- Grand-Puy-Lacoste: pure, ethereal, elegant fruit substance from the Borie family, this wine already has a mention in my ‘top ten’. Yet another superb effort which easily eclipses other well-known Pauillac ‘pretenders’. I’m hoping for a good price!
- Malescot St-Exupéry: Malescot has been on a roll in recent vintages. In 2010 they continue this trend.
- Lafon-Rochet: a wine reflecting the St Estèphe success in 2010 – let’s hope the price is right!
- Les Ormes de Pez: again, a fine St Estèphe. Ditto my comments above; if the price is right, this would make a good buy.
- Feytit-Clinet: a fresher style from this under-rated estate which turns out some delightful wines.
