Sébastien Brunet: Vineyards
Sébastien Brunet is located close to the northern limit of the appellation, further north than most other Vouvray domaines profiled on this site. To find it you must head east out of the town of Vouvray itself, on the road towards Vernou-sur-Brenne; even this short leg of the journey, which might bring you to the door of Vincent Carême, is several kilometres. Then you must turn north, and follow the Vallée de Brenne up past Chançay and on towards Reugny, adding a few more kilometres to your journey.
The first time I realised the Vouvray appellation reached out this far was when I travelled out to meet François Pinon, who is up in the Vallée de Cousse, the Cousse being a tributary of the Brenne, which itself flows into the Loire. In the case of Sébastien he is further along the Brenne, just south of Reugny. The vineyards have already begun to peter out here, individual plots jostling for space alongside fields of arable crops (not uncommonly sunflowers, which provide some wonderful views when in full bloom), small copses of trees, some larger expanses of woodland and of course the many residential properties scattered along the D46 as it follows the Brenne.
