Domaine Poiron-Dabin: Tasting & Drinking
As is the case with many domaines in Muscadet, this estate and its wines must not be judged before tasting. Hidden within each bottle – talking exclusively of the Muscadet cuvées, and particularly of the Grande Réserve – there was the texture and depth of flavour that betrayed the prolonged period of time the wines had spent sur lie.
Despite not having the same cachet or degree of popularity among Muscadet geeks as the likes of Marc Ollivier or Jo Landron, Jean-Michel Poiron is certainly running a domaine worth knowing about here. I was impressed by the quality and interest found within the wines, which show purity and freshness, and an unexpected level of depth and interest in the Grande Réserve cuvée in particular, which I think would be my choice for drinking.
