Château du Perron: Vineyards
The domaine is today just a shadow of its former self, François having about 4.5 hectares of vines to exploit. From the outset his approach has been organic, certified by Ecocert; he uses no chemicals in the vineyards, leaving grass to grow beneath the vines, and mowing the vegetation between the rows. Treatments are limited to copper sulphate, used at levels much lower than permitted (300g to 700g per hectare for an entire growing season is typical), and infusions of nettle, comfrey, horsetail or burdock. He does not plough the soil.
