Domaine Perrault-Jadaud: Vineyards

Although Tanguy Perrault and Anne-Cécile Jadaud (pictured below) live in a wooded dale which slices down through the deuxième côte of Chançay, from the plateau behind to the valley of the Brenne in front, the vineyards with which they started out are located in Vouvray, much closer to the Loire itself. As I have indicated in my introduction they have 4.5 hectares of vines to work with, in several parcels scattered across the Vouvray appellation.

One of their smaller but most highly-prized vineyards is a 0.6-hectare parcel named Bidaudières planted on a small sequence of terraces; it is easy to locate as it sits just in front of Château de Bidaudières, on the main road running between Vouvray and Vernou-sur-Brenne. Bidaudières is a famous name in the commune, although it will not be familiar to most wine drinkers, even the most dedicated followers of the wines of Vouvray, as following a restoration in 1996 the Château de Bidaudières now functions as a luxurious hotel, and no longer has any vines. Nevertheless, this was once the estate of Charles Vavasseur, a Russian by birth but an adopted Vouvrillon who was a long-serving mayor of the commune before the office was taken on by Gaston Huet. Vavasseur owned several of the commune’s most famous vineyards, including those now belonging to Domaine Huet, including Le Mont and the Clos du Bourg.
