Domaine des Hauts Baigneux: Tasting & Drinking
Domaine des Hauts Baigneux is a domaine worthy of our attention, one that is run by two very dedicated individuals, who manage to turn out a range of interesting wines in all colours and almost all styles. Curiously, the real successes do not seem to be limited to any particular part of the portfolio. In terms of the entirely home-grown wines released under the Domaine des Hauts Baigneux label, these are broadly convincing, from the joyful Pétillant Naturel, through to the Azay-le-Rideau Blanc Chenin and the Touraine Rouge Les Pentes. The négoce wines, made with friends under the Les Tètes and Les Tètes au Bois Dormant labels, should not be overlooked though; I was particularly impressed by the 2014 Les Tètes Bourgueil Les Hauts, the quality of the limestone terroir shining through here. From the Rigny-Ussé vines, however, deemed suitable only for sparkling wines, Philippe and Nicolas make some really appealing méthode traditionnelle cuvées under the Tètes au Bois Dormant label. Fresh, full, fun and lip-smackingly tasty, these are wines not to ignore.
