Domaine de la Garrelière: Tasting & Drinking

In Domaine de la Garrelière we have yet another fine example of the joyful diversity of the Loire Valley, and the benefits to be had from exploring beyond the boundaries of the most famous appellations. The nearest appellation of note is probably Chinon, which lies about 20 kilometres to the north-west, from where the Plouzeau family originated. Here, in what is almost a viticultural wilderness, surrounded by woodland, arable agriculture and the occasional lake, we have a lone outpost of what was once a considerable vineyard. As such, the wines have no grander appellation than Touraine, nevertheless they are wines of vibrancy, honesty and joy.
