Château Saint-Pierre: Vineyards
Château Saint-Pierre lies just outside the little village of Beychevelle, near the boundary of the St Julien appellation, in the south-eastern corner. It sits very close to the D2, so that as you head north into and through the village it is on the left-hand side, just after Château Beychevelle and Château Branaire-Ducru. Unlike these two châteaux, however, it is much more difficult to spot, sitting within a small park enclosed by cast-iron railings and gates, and obscured from view by a collection of mature trees. In short, if you pass Château Gloria, the other principal Domaines Martin estate, you have already past it.
There are 17 hectares of vineyard, making this one of the smallest classed growths in the St Julien appellation, the other candidate for this accolade being Château Langoa-Barton. These vineyards lie essentially in two halves. The first is on the left of the D2, just in front of the château, with a few more parcels to the southwest. The other vines are on the northwest side of the village, a few parcels running in a northwesterly direction.
