Domaine de la Bergerie, 2017 Update
With the ongoing transition from Yves Guégniard (pictured below) to the next generation, Domaine de la Bergerie remains one of the leading domaines in Anjou. Over the past year or two Yves has increasingly been taking a back seat, and when I last visited in July 2017 I was lucky to catch him and his wife Marie-Annick, as they had returned from an exotic foreign holiday the day before. It was during this visit that I learned that Anne’s sister, who has until recently been carving out a career of her own, is set to return to the domaine in order to help out with its running.
I suppose in many other circumstances we would expect Anne’s husband, David Guitton, to take on this role. But David, an accomplished chef who trained with Alain Ducasse and Joël Robuchon, has his hands full running the restaurant they have on site, and so I am sure Anne will appreciate having a little help when out in the vines.
