Domaine des Rochelles, 2015 Update
It was only earlier this week that I updated my profile of Domaine des Rochelles, adding new detail and images, as well as some new tasting notes which I jotted down last year when I tasted through the range with Jean-Hubert Lebreton (pictured below), the fifth generation of the Lebreton family to take the helm at this very significant Anjou domaine. By coincidence, the very day after updating the Rochelles profile I met up with Jean-Hubert again, and having tasted through the most recent vintages I thought it made sense to publish them straight away.
The new tasting notes are below, and most of the usual cuvées are represented, including old favourites such as La Croix de Mission, one of the Loire Valley’s top Cabernet Sauvignon blends, and the Coteaux de l’Aubance, one of the top examples of the appellation. Tasting through the range two things struck me. First, with regard to the 2013 vintage, to produce two wines of such colour and character in such a trying year is surely testament to the efforts and skill of the Lebreton family. Second, the entry-level wines of the 2014 vintage I tasted were very convincing (and this was a feature reflected in the 2014 wines from some other domaines tasted on the same day). This is looking like a very promising vintage.
