A Visit to Domaine Ogereau, 2017: Tasting Notes

After our tour we headed back to the cellars, for a quick-fire tasting and then some lunch. Rather than posting notes from this rather informal tasting, I present below some tasting notes from a meeting with Emmanuel at the Salon de Vins de la Loire made a few months earlier.

The range of wines here just seems to get better and better, Emmanuel bringing a new minerally and acid-fresh character to the house style, as well as the introduction of several new cuvées, not only the Anjou Blanc Vent de Spilite and Quarts de Chaume but also the very impressive Savennières L’Enthousiasme. In white this new style shines through most effectively in the 2015 vintage, which possesses such a convincing acid-framed structure and minerally vein that I think, tasting blind, I would have readily suggested it were from the 2014 vintage. The 2015 L’Enthousiasme is a superb wine which will evolve in a very positive manner.
