Domaine Vincendeau: Vineyards

Liv Vincendeau’s vineyards are in the lieu-dit Le Raguenet, which sits on a crest of land high above the Loire, not far from Rochefort sur Loire, a position which affords a fine view out over the waters of the river, and the island of Béhuard. This is the famed Corniche Angevine which I described in my introduction. The parcel of vines is located very close to Château de l’Eperonnière which is owned by the Tijou family, a well-known name in the region, having previously been the owners of Château Soucherie.

Today Liv Vincendeau has 7 hectares of land here, although as of 2016 only 3.8 hectares were planted up and in production, the rest is fallow land, or planted with grass. The vines are planted on a gentle slope which descends from the crest in the direction of the Loire, affording a superb view over the local landscape, from the vineyards of Savennières on the opposite bank to the cathedral spires of Angers in the distance. The terroir is schist with little veins of quartz and phthanite, very typical of the region, and the majority of the vines are Chenin Blanc, as they were when Liv acquired the parcel, with a small area dedicated to Gamay. Liv also has some red vines which she tends on a fermage basis. These vines are located to the east of Rochefort sur Loire, near the Pony Club.
