Nicolas Reau: Tasting & Drinking
I have met Nicolas Reau once, and encountered his wines once, and not the full range at that. For that reason it is impossible for me to provide much detail on the full range of wines, or to give personal opinions on them. Nevertheless when we met Nicolas poured just two wines, both from the 2013 vintage, and these were impressive, especially his white Clos des Treilles cuvée, and I was immediately convinced that Nicolas deserved a profile.
The 2013 Clos des Treilles has seen an élevage in old oak which has not, at the stage I tasted it at any rate, done anything to mute the beautifully pure fruit of the Chenin Blanc. This is a wine of punchy character and vibrant acidity, giving the palate vigour and lift, the aromatic profile of wild flowers and orchard fruit allowed to express itself fully.
