François Cazin: Vineyards

François Cazin has approximately 20 hectares of vineyards to work with. Of these, three-quarters can be found in the Cheverny appellation, while the remaining one-quarter (i.e. 5 hectares) are in the Cour-Cheverny appellation. As this latter appellation only amounts to about 50 hectares in its entirety, François is cultivating about 10% of the appellation, a not-insignificant responsibility.

In his Cour-Cheverny vineyards his Romorantin vines are aged more than 30 years on average, planted on clay and limestone soils. In his 15 hectares dedicated to Cheverny and Crémant de Loire he has 4 hectares of Pinot Noir, 4 hectares of Gamay, 5 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc and 2 hectares of Chardonnay, as well as small parcels of Côt and Menu Pineau. The Gamay and Sauvignon Blanc tend to be planted on more sandy-clay soils, while clay and limestone is favoured for Pinot Noir.
