François Cazin: Tasting & Drinking

The wines made by François Cazin can, in my opinion, be simply fabulous. They are wines of purity, minerality and a sweet-sour vibrancy that makes my mouth water for more. I have no doubt that he is one of the leading vignerons in the appellation, along with Michel Gendrier, Michel Quenouix, Laura Semeria and Christian Tessier, among one or two others. Indeed, I am sure there are some who would place him at the very top, but for me I find it difficult to choose. Each of these domaines offers something unique and interesting, and it is much more fun to select from their range, rather than restricting myself to one domaine labelled as the ‘best’.

Having said that, with my diplomatic hat on, I should point out that I do buy and drink quite a lot of François Cazin’s wines, especially that deliciously succulent, acid-framed Cuvée Renaissance. This is a wine which combines the sweetness of fruit and the tang of Romorantin’s acidity so beautifully, it simply has to be tasted to be believed in some vintages. (21/1/09, updated 3/12/15)
