Daniel Crochet: Vineyards
The domaine is situated on the Rue de Venoize, just on the northern edge of the village of Bué, heading for the little hamlet of Venoize. Follow the road around far enough and you would eventually come to the house of François Crochet, Daniel’s cousin. It should come as no surprise, therefore, to learn that Daniel’s top cuvées originate from the very best caillottes terroirs which lie dotted around the village of Bué.
Altogether Daniel Crochet has about 10 hectares of vines, a modest and manageable domaine. Of this, about 6 hectares of the vineyard are dedicated to Sauvignon Blanc, while a little less than 4 hectares are planted to Pinot Noir. The vines are in general located on the slopes around Bué, while some lie between Bué and Sancerre. The soils are a typical mix of Kimmeridgian terres blanches and Oxfordian caillottes, with no place in the vineyard portfolio for flint, which of course tends to be located around the slopes of Sancerre and Saint-Satur, to the east.
