Château La Gravière: Vineyards
The vineyards of Château La Gravière are located in three distinct terroirs. The first I have already described in my profile, this being the small parcel of vines in Néac which faces Château Rouget across the Barbanne. This remains a vital part of the estate today, and is still home to some of the property’s older Merlot vines. Today there are 1.3 hectares of vines here, the fruit of which are used for the grand vin.
The second grouping of parcels is located close to the D1089 as it runs in a northeasterly direction out of Libourne, through the Pomerol and Lalande-de-Pomerol appellations. Heading in this direction, it is not long before the Durantou property Château Les Cruzelles appears on the left hand side. The vines of Château La Gravière are gathered around this property, some behind it in the lieu-dit of Aux Champs des Landes, and also next to it, at the side of the road, in the lieux-dits of Champ des Cruzelles and Marchesseau, and again behind those in Marechaude. These parcels amount to 2.7 hectares which contribute to the grand vin. Finally, as far as Château La Gravière is concerned, there are another 3.5 hectares in the lieux-dits of Canton des Chats and Bois de Montviel, which sit closer to the Barbanne.
