Château Bernadotte: Vineyards
The château itself is attractive although its impact is somewhat muted due to its position at the centre of Le Fournas, a slightly sprawling village in the commune of Saint-Sauveur, almost directly west of Pauillac. It enjoys a prominent street-corner position, but being flanked on all sides by other buildings, without a surrounding expanse of vineyards or even a hint of a tree-lined avenue, it is in fact difficult to get a good view of it.
The vineyards all lie nearby, within the commune of Saint-Sauveur. As hinted above this is just outside the Pauillac appellation; about 2.5 kilometres to the east is the grand puy, upon which sites Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste and, just slightly further south we find Château Batailley and its partner Château Haut-Batailley. Looking back a few years the vineyard amounted to 35 hectares, the majority of parcels lying around Le Fournas, on the western side of the village, although a few are dotted to the east, on the road down towards Pauillac.
