Domaine de Veilloux, 2015 Update
There are several domaines tucked away on the arrow-head of land that lies between the waters of the Loire and the Cher that I have gotten to know through my visits to the region. Here, in the frequently overlooked appellation of Cheverny, a number of vignerons make truly fascinating wines. To quickly recap the varieties involved, in white these are blends of Sauvignon Blanc with Menu Pineau (also known as Arbois), Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc, while the reds feature Pinot Noir with Gamay, Côt and Cabernet Franc.
In white, although the ‘traditional’ Sauvignon-Chardonnay cuvée can be good enough, things get really interesting when a grower looks to Menu Pineau instead, while in red like many wine drinkers out there I can’t resist the hunt for good value, tasty Pinot Noir. One domaine that satisfies on both counts is Domaine de Veilloux, home to Michel Quenouix (pictured above), increasingly assisted by his son Arnaud. Please log in to continue reading:
