Les Terres d’Ocre: Tasting & Drinking
The wines of Les Terres d’Ocre are a delight, and Florent’s venture is a very welcome addition to the Loire Valley wine scene. He has on his side an interesting variety in Tressallier, to complement the Burgundian trio he otherwise works with. He also has a good climate, being situated considerably further south than the vast majority of the Loire’s vineyards, closer to Mâcon than just about any other wine town that sits on the Loire (or on the Allier in this case, to be precise). This has the advantage of a more assured ripeness which is beneficial not just to the reds, but also the Chardonnay in my opinion, which here displays none of the leafy, greener edges it often shows from other vineyards along much of the Loire Valley. With the acid-fresh Tressallier providing the spine, the white blends here are worth going out of your way for.
