The vignerons of Anjou are disadvantaged somewhat in that the appellations they work with do not have the same caché as that enjoyed by those working in Saumur-Champigny, Chinon, Sancerre or Pouilly-Fumé. This is a great shame because, as a result the wines lack an immediate identity, and I feel many casual drinkers overlook the wines of Anjou, and even superior appellations such as Anjou-Villages and Anjou-Villages-Brissac, in favour of these other better-known appellations.
