Domaine Lecomte: Vineyards

There is no real focus for the domaine in the appellation, other than the Domaine de Maison Blanche, the shared vinification facility. As I have already explained in my profile, the Lecomte family originate from Avord, which is north of Bourges.

Bruno and Nicolas Lecomte now have 13 hectares of vines all told, 10 hectares in Quincy and 3 hectares in Châteaumeillant. In Quincy the vines are naturally 100% Sauvignon Blanc, planted at a density of 6,500 vines per hectare, and they range in age, but the oldest are aged over 50 years and are destined for the Vieilles Vignes and Génération I cuvées. In Châteaumeillant the varieties planted include Gamay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris, and these mostly go into a single red cuvée, although there is also the old-vine Folie Deuce cuvée.

Nicolas describes the work in the vineyards as viticulture raisonnée; they work the soil mechanically rather than using herbicides, but there is certainly no leaning towards organics or biodynamics.
