Château Ramage La Batisse: Tasting & Drinking
Château Ramage La Batisse has established itself as a reliable source of good-value and attractive wines in the classic left-bank style. In good vintages these are certainly wines to consider for value drinking, alongside those of this estate’s neighbours, such as Château Liversan. Good vintages in recent years include 2016, 2014, 2010 and to my surprise, looking back at my notes, even the 2012 seemed to impress me (although it would be interesting to revisit this difficult vintage).
Other vintages have been more difficult. The property certainly seems to have struggled in 2011. I don’t think it is a wine that necessarily repays long keeping, although I haven’t had a recent opportunity to revisit the 2001 vintage, which I tasted a long time ago now, and this experience might dispel that assumption. As for that bottle I drank in my student years, whether it was a 1984, a 1987 or some other vintage, I think that one is best left as a distant memory. (18/2/21)
