Château de Tracy, 2023 Update

Following my report on the most recent releases from Henri Bourgeois published earlier this week, featuring wines from Sancerre, Pouilly-Fumé, Menetou-Salon and Quincy (not quite the Central Vineyards full house, but it is close), today I am homing in on just one of these appellations with a report on the most recent releases from Château de Tracy.

That means Pouilly-Fumé of course.

Oh, and a Brut Nature sparkling wine made purely with Chardonnay. I’m not kidding.

For several reasons it seems appropriate to take a look at these two domaines – Henri Bourgeois and Château de Tracy – in the same week. Both have long had a presence in my local market, and I am sure Château de Tracy provided a first encounter with the wines of Pouilly-Fumé for many UK drinkers (I wouldn’t be surprised if the same were true of Henri Bourgeois and Sancerre). And the wines of the two domaines display, to my mind and palate, some similarities in style and in key elements of their flavour profiles.

In addition, looking to the domaines today, both are in the process of a conversion to certified organic viticulture, 2022 the final year of certification for Château de Tracy which means their 2023 wines will have, when released in a year or two, organic certification. The process will take a little longer for Henri Bourgeois, as they have a much larger vineyard to deal with, but their first (of many!) certified organic cuvées should also begin appearing in 2023.

In this report I take a look at recent releases from Château de Tracy, with a focus on the 2021 and 2019 vintages. And that sparkling Chardonnay, of course.
