Pascal Cotat: Vineyards

The domaine of Pascal Cotat is slightly larger than that of François Cotat, although the availability of the top wines would not suggest this is the case. This is because, when it comes to the famed slopes around Chavignol, Pascal has fewer vines here, just 2.5 hectares all told.

His largest holding is in Les Monts Damnés (pictured), where he has 1.5 hectares. This is the village’s most famous and desirable vineyard, renowned for its steep incline as well as the splendour of its wines, of course. Pascal’s vines are high up the south-facing slope, the vines at least 35 years old. The incline means, as is the case with François Cotat, the vines are tended and ultimately picked by hand. In addition, Pascal also has 1 hectare of vines on La Grande Côte, on a north-facing section. Here the slope is still 30%, almost ‘gentle’ compared to some of the more vertiginous vineyards nearby. The vines are at least 60 years old here.
