Gilles Bonnefoy: Tasting & Drinking
The wines of the Côtes du Forez appellation are worth exploring, as they give us a distinctive expression of Gamay, superior to that found in Anjou and Touraine in my opinion, with greater depth, energy, flavour and drive. They are perhaps more akin to the wines of Beaujolais than they are any other Loire wines, but they are not the same. Indeed, I would drink these wines, and those of the Côte Roannaise, in preference to those of their more famous neighbour. But of course, I am biased.
