Every corner of the Loire Valley has its accepted icon domaines and vignerons, from Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau and Alphonse Mellot up in Pouilly-Fumé and Sancerre, to Philippe Foreau in Vouvray, Nicolas Joly in Savennières and of course Clos Rougeard and – who knows, perhaps one day – Romain Guiberteau in Saumur. All these domaines are profiled on Winedoctor; that’s the easy (dare I say lazy) part of writing about a region such as the Loire Valley. It’s good to know the benchmark domaines, but they aren’t the be-all and end-all of this wonderfully diverse region.
