Château Tour Seran: Vineyards

The vineyards of Château Tour Seran are located in an enviable position, close to the end of a low gravelly croupe close to the tiny hamlet of La Lagune, just north of the settlements of Saint-Christoly-Médoc and Port de By, and closely approximated to the waters of the Gironde.

Just to the south-east, sharing this gravelly uprising, are the vineyards of La Tour de By, which are made easily identifiable by the iconic and elegantly constructed lighthouse (pictured below), as seen from the vineyards of Tour Seran. To the north-west the land falls away again, down to the Chenal de Troussas à la Reille, one of many drainage channels in this part of the Médoc. On the far side of this channel and its broad banks of marshland the land rises up again, the slopes covered in vines, but there are no châteaux of note here.

The 15 hectares of vines are located in a single parcel, the focal point of which is today the cellars, which sit near the foot of the slope, looking down onto the lowest parcel. Which begs the question, of course, where is the Tour Séran for which the property is named?
