Château du Moulin Rouge: Vineyards

As indicated in the introduction to this profile, Château du Moulin Rouge is located at the eastern edge of Cussac-Fort-Médoc, very close to Château Lamothe-Bergeron. This is the only near neighbour of note, all the commune’s more renowned properties being located on the west side of the town.

There are 27 hectares of vines here, some of which are directly associated with the cellars; three tiny parcels interdigitate with them and the surrounding buildings, although each parcel is barely a fraction of a hectare. The majority of the vines, then, are more widely scattered, with some over to the west of the settlement. The soils therefore have a gravelly component, as typifies the commune, but there are also some more sandy and silty stretches.

The approach to the work in the vines is conventional, with no organic or biodynamic status, although there is a slow shift towards more sustainable working, with level three Haute Valeur Environnementale certification recently obtained.
