Château Lamothe-Bergeron: Vineyards
Château Lamothe-Bergeron is located just to the east of Cussac-Fort-Médoc, on the very periphery of the village. On one side of the château sit suburban residences, on the other side its vineyards (or rather a minor slice of them). Beyond this small patch of vines sits to the east the wider palus, the fertile waterside pasture no good for the vine, and flowing next to that is the Gironde. The distance from the château to the estuary is a mere 1400 metres.
The estate’s nearest neighbour is the Château du Moulin Rouge, with no others of note very nearby, although the wider commune of Cussac-Fort-Médoc is blessed with a number of notable Haut-Médoc properties, not least Château du Retout. It is worth noting, however, that the waterside position so far described accounts for only a small part of the vines. Of the estate’s 67 hectares, only 10 hectares lie around the château; the remaining 57 hectares are found to the west, on the other side of the village. These vines are directly contiguous with those of another well-known Cussac property, Château Beaumont.
