Château de Villeneuve, 2023 Update
I can never resist the opportunity to revisit the wines of Château de Villeneuve. In an appellation where one domaine seems to hog so much of the limelight (you know the one I mean), it is worthwhile reminding ourselves that there is a broad of cohort of other vignerons – Germain, Guiberteau, Porché, Sanzay, Vallée, I could go on – who turn out a smorgasbord of interesting, tasty and occasionally exceptional wines.
And I should add Chevallier to that list, of course. More specifically Jean-Pierre Chevallier, and his wife Florence, of Château de Villeneuve.
In this brief tasting report I check out the latest vintages of the various Château de Villeneuve cuvées. As always this includes both white Saumur and red Saumur-Champigny, the region’s limestone terroirs ideal for both Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc.
