Bordeaux 2015 at Two Years: The Rest of The Right

In this final instalment of my report on the 2015 Bordeaux vintage at two years of age my intention is to ‘mop up’ on the right bank with a look at a handful of wines from the less famous appellations. So I present below a selection of tasting notes from the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux, Lalande-de-Pomerol and Côtes de Bourg appellations. I follow these up with some right-bank wines made using the generic Bordeaux appellation, a mix of big-name whites and value-for-money reds.

By and large, with most right bank appellations enjoying dry and favourable conditions in the run up to the harvest, the scene was set here for good quality. Indeed, having tasted the wines I find a number here that should be of interest to inquisitive Bordeaux drinkers.

The Wines

In Castillon, Château d’Aiguilhe shows a very consistent style, as does Château Montlandrie from Denis Durantou. They pipped L’Aurage to the post, even though I do have a soft spot for this estate and its wines, which are made by Louis Mitjavile. In Lalande-de-Pomerol the 2015 from Château Les Cruzelles looks set to provide some decent drinking, but all of these wines were eclipsed by the 2015 from Roc de Cambes, yet another fine success from the Mitjavile family in this vintage.
