Pierre Martin: Tasting & Drinking
Sancerre is a much abused name, a statement I am sure I have made many times elsewhere, but find a good one and you have something very special; a wine that is cool, defined, minerally and bright. And, more importantly, there is a cerebral element to it, a sense that the wine is tied to the land in some way, and does not carry the simple fruit-based aromas and flavours on which New World Sauvignon Blancs major. Here in Pierre Martin we have another name to add to the growing list of domaines that are turning out excellent examples of the appellation, the wines – at the lieu-dit level especially – being quite magnificent.
