Domaine du Moulin: Vineyards
The domaine is located on the banks of the Beuvron, a small tributary of the Loire, which joins the great river upstream of much better-known tributaries such as the Cher, Indre and Vienne. The union of the two rivers is just downstream of Blois, and the domaine thus lies almost directly south of this town, although a large patch of woodland separate the two. The vines are spread across 25 hectares and three communes, Cellettes, Chitenay and Fougères-sur-Bièvre. Near neighbours, as already hinted at, include Thierry Puzelat who is located just 6 kilometres to the west in Les Montils.
The soils are generally rich in flint, usually mixed with sand or clay. The full range of Loire varieties are planted, including Pinot Noir, Gamay and Côt for the red and rosé wines, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Romorantin for the white wines, and Menu Pineau and Pineau d’Aunis for the sparkling wines. The viticultural philosophy is organic; the vines in Cellettes and Chitenay have been organic since 2000, those in Fougères-sur-Bièvre since 2008, the year Hervé acquired them.
