Domaine de Montcy: Vineyards

The domaine is, obviously in view of its origins and history, located very close to the Château de Troussay, which is just a few hundred metres distant, hidden from view by a large patch of woodland. This is Cheverny (and Cour-Cheverny) territory, and the Château de Cheverny, and of course the town of Cheverny itself, are just a few kilometres to the northeast.

As mentioned on the previous page, however, the sale of the domaine from Laura Semeria to Vincent Hayer (pictured below) and the Chevrier family prompted a relocation and the construction of new facilities. What was once the home of Domaine de Montcy, an impressive green-roofed facility just to the south of Château de Troussay, was sold and has now been rechristened Domaine La Porte Dorée, and is operated by a company specialising in the production of organic fruits and vegetables. They held on to just 2.5 hectares of vines, the produce from which they sell off, and the business is now entirely separate from Domaine de Montcy.

The new owners moved north, to the far side of Château de Troussay, and just beyond Domaine Tessier. Here in 2021 the construction of new cellars began on an old parcel of vines. The new facilities were completed in June 2022, in plenty of time for that year’s harvest. Built by local craftsmen to sustainable and ecological standards, it features rooftop solar panels which generate more energy than the cellars require, and thus electricity is exported to local homes.
