Julien et Clément Raimbault: Tasting & Drinking
It was worthwhile stopping off to taste the wines of Julien and Clément Raimbault and to learn about what they are doing at this domaine, in one of the more peripheral villages of the Sancerre appellation. Looking at their wines in the very broad context of Sancerre, I can’t help feeling that I have caught the domaine in something of an upwards trajectory, with little distance behind it. The wines are attractive, quite classic, nicely defined, but there seems to me to be a good number of processes and practices Julien and Clément adhere to which could be improved. The work in the vineyard, for example, the methods used to pick the fruit and the use of cultured yeasts being just three chosen methods which perhaps require more thought and consideration.
