Clos la Néore: Tasting & Drinking
The wines of Clos la Néore are distinct within the Sancerre firmament. First, although the label may say Sancerre, these are certainly wines of Chavignol. The Kimmeridgian terroir here seems to confer greater structure, complexity and minerality than can be found in many wines of the appellation which perhaps focus on fruit and flower aromas and flavours. Even within the Chavignol style, however, I sense the wines of Clos la Néore are different. Gone is the succulent swirling of mineral and citrus found in the wines of Gerard Boulay or Thomas-Labaille, instead here the wines seem much more reticent, much less giving, in their youth at least.
