Château Les Trois Croix: Tasting & Drinking

The appellations of Fronsac and Canon-Fronsac are rich in good-value drinking opportunities, and Château Les Trois Croix is one more to add to this list. The property has already proven itself under the direction of Patrick Léon, but if there are still any lingering doubts about the quality and value here I am sure these will be firmly put to rest during the course of the next one or two decades; with lots of new high-quality plantings gaining in maturity, and the talented Bertrand Léon now at the helm, I think we can expect to see better and better wines coming out of these cellars.

Looking back at vintages tasted recently, there really is much to admire, especially in strong vintages such as 2019, 2020 (in which I found the wine from bottle much more convincing than the barrel sample tasted during the primeurs, two years earlier), 2022 and 2023. Even the wine of the 2021 vintage seemed competent, even if it was missing a little of the depth I would really like to find here, But that’s 2021 for you. On the whole these are extremely successful wines which off good value and which should develop well in the cellar. Sign me up. (21/8/24)
