Château Tour Saint Bonnet: Vineyards

Château Tour Saint Bonnet is not difficult to locate, being one of a number of estates located very close to the waters of the Gironde, even if they are quite high up on the Médoc peninsula. If you keep heading north, following the D2 (the famed Route des Châteaux, although there are no famous names this far north) which hugs the bank of the estuary all the way up to Saint-Vivien-en-Médoc, you will eventually find yourself driving past Château Tour Saint Bonnet. The only problem is that the estate’s extensive vineyard is largely hidden from view by the trees and shrubs which line the road. The estate is so large, however, if you take almost any left-turn after Saint-Christoly-Médoc you will soon find yourself driving through the vineyard; stone markers (which, if you look closely, still bear the estate’s old name, complete with ‘La’) confirm you have arrived.

The vines sit on a modest croupe with a core of gravel, the soils gradually turning more sandy around the edges. There are 32 hectares of vines today, flanked by the Gironde to the north and east, the marshland around the Grand Canal de By (a drainage channel) to the west, and the other vineyards of Saint-Christoly-Médoc to the south. The nearest neighbours or note are Château Les Ormes Sorbet to the south, and just on the other side of the marshes to the northwest lie the Jean Guyon estates around By, including Château Rollan de By and Château Greysac.
