Château Dalem: Vineyards

Château Dalem is situated on high ground in Saillans, at an altitude of 83 metres, on the outskirts of the village of Saillans. This places it in a Fronsac hotspot, as within walking distance lie, to the north, the elegant Château Puyguilhem and the ancient Château de Carles, in the body of the town to the west Château Fontenil and just beyond Château Villars, while to the south we find Château Moulin Haut-Laroque and, at the foot of the côtes a mere stone’s throw from the waters of the Isle, Château La Vieille Cure.

The vineyard of Château Dalem now extends over 40 hectares, although it should be noted that this includes the vineyard of Château de la Huste, which Brigitte Rullier-Loussert runs in parallel with Dalem, and thus only about 16 hectares are dedicated to the Château Dalem grand vin. Of these, about 5 hectares are situated directly around the château, representing the original Dalem vineyard. The other 35 hectares are scattered across the immediate region, which brings a diversity of terroirs to the Dalem palette. These include parcels with clay over the highly prized Calcaire à Astéries and some with clay over the regional specialty, Molasses du Fronsadais, while others have less prestigious soils of sandy clay and clay with loam.
