Winedoctor 25th Birthday Offer

This year saw Winedoctor hit 25 years of age.

It was sometime in May of the year 2000 that I posted my first article. The oldest extant articles – a profile of Château Talbot, and two mini-horizontals of Bordeaux 1988 and Bordeaux 1989 – are dated May 21st 2000, although there may have been something published prior to that. I wasn’t exactly rigorous about archiving and preserving old pages. There were, for example, years and years of ‘Weekend Wines’ dedicated to Burgundy, Germany, Languedoc and Provence which were published and then over-written, each week’s post an ephemeral exploration of a wine that was, in most cases, entirely new to me.

To be honest, looking at my tasting notes from 25 years ago, maybe it is a good thing they have gone!

These days I focus pretty much exclusively on Bordeaux and the Loire Valley, with the occasional trip down memory lane, into Port, Champagne, the Rhône Valley and even Germany, the wines I used to drink and then post about before I realised it would be better if I specialised in one or two (I settled on two!) regions.

Specialisation has served me well, but it has also kept me busy. This year I have been to Bordeaux four times already (the primeurs and three other tasting trips) and will be back there before the year is out to taste the 2023 vintage now it has been bottled; the image above hints at some of the forthcoming reports. And as for the Loire Valley, having put down some roots in the region in 2016, I naturally spend as much time as I can there, not only for the February salons but at other times through the year, especially harvest-time if possible.

None of this would have been possible without Winedoctor subscribers. I moved Winedoctor to a paywall model in 2013, twelve years ago, and it was a runaway success. The initial sign-up in 2013 was six times my predicted figure, and it has climbed ever since. I am immensely grateful to all who have offered Winedoctor support. Some have been subscribing for twelve years solid! Some dip in and out, a month at a time. All are welcome and appreciated – thank you.

It seemed to me I should mark 25 years of Winedoctor in some way, and as I recently offered all past subscribers a 25%-off deal to return to Winedoctor, I thought I should open the offer out to all; 25% off a first subscription (first month or first year, depending on which subscription you take), valid for the rest of October. After that, it’s back to full price (which, by the way, has not incremented since the price was set in 2013).

Use the discount code 25years25off when signing up to get your subscription discount. And you can sign up here. (14/10/25)
